1 July 2015
Labour Minister Gerald Nash was last night selected as Labour Party candidate for the constituency Louth & East Meath. He will be joined on the Labour ticket by Senator Mary Moran.
He said: “I’m privileged to be nominated by my party for the General Election and I will be standing on my track record on delivering for the people of this constituency since 2011.
Jobs:
With Labour in Government unemployment has dropped down by 8.6% in the last 12 months. 1337 people have come off the live Register in Co. Louth in the last year alone.
Investing in schools
Under Labour, more than €67 million has been provided for major school building and modernisation projects in Louth between 2011 and 2015.
Investing in Health
· In the HSE Service Plan for 2015, the Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda, will have a new acute mental health unit. This will result in 45 replacement beds at a cost of €12.6m.
· Primary Care Centres have been delivered by this Government in Carlingford and Ardee.
· In the HSE Service Plan for 2015, the St. Oliver Plunkett Hospital in Dundalk will be refurbished and upgraded to achieve HIQA compliance with a cost of €4.2m and resulting in 40 replacement beds. This project will be completed in Q3 2015 and fully operational in Q4 2015.
Investing in Housing
· On May 5th 2015, Labour Minister Alan Kelly announced the first major direct build social housing programme to be delivered by Local Authorities across the country this year.
· The move is part of the first phase of direct-build under the Government’s social housing strategy. €312 million has been earmarked for Louth which will see an additional 1700 social housing units come on stream by 2017 with an estimated 3000 additional jobs in construction created.
Better Energy Schemes:
· 8,108 Louth homes have benefitted from the Better Energy Schemes since they were founded in 2009.
· 4,416 Louth homes have benefitted from the Better Energy Homes Scheme, whereas 3,692 Louth homes have benefitted from the Better Energy Warmer Homes Scheme.
I believe that in the next General Election, the people will be looking to elect a Government that will ensure that the recovery continues; improve living standards for working families; and provide decent services for communities at local level.
When it comes to these concerns, Labour is the only Party that can be trusted to deliver.
