SENATOR GED NASH URGES SWIFT ACTION ON PROPOSED EMPLOYER-LABOUR CONFERENCE

Labour Party Senator and spokesperson on Labour Affairs and Workers’ Rights, Ged Nash, has called on the Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Mary Mitchell O’Connell, to quickly move to establish an Employer-Labour Conference, after the Labour party motion was successfully passed in the Seanad, last night.
The proposed body would complement and support the work of government and current industrial relations institutions, and is aimed at promoting industrial peace and stability.
Welcoming the outcome of last night’s debate, Senator Nash said:
"The government must respect the outcome of last night’s debate and establish this necessary body without any further delay.
We are facing into a winter of discontent on the industrial relations front and quite frankly this dysfunctional government could do with all the advice and help they can get in this area.
This type of body predates social partnership and is not designed to supplant but to complement the work of the WRC and the Labour court."
