Engagement with unions needed to solve Lloyd's dispute - Nash

Ahead of tomorrow’s planned industrial action by Lloyd’s Pharmacy staff, Labour Party spokesperson on Employment and Social Affairs, Ged Nash, has urged the company to accept the recent Labour Court recommendation.
Senator Nash said:
“Firstly, I want to offer Labour’s full support to the Lloyd’s Pharmacy workers who feel they have no option or alternative course of action other than to take to the picket lines.
“My Party and I strongly support the workers in Lloyd’s Pharmacies throughout the country and their union representatives in their actions to improve the security and terms and conditions of workers.
“I have written to the management of Lloyd’s Pharmacies asking them to accept the Labour Court recommendation and to engage in a meaningful way with Mandate to address issues around certainty and security over working hours and conditions.
“It is extremely disappointing that the company has chosen to flatly ignore a recommendation from the key industrial relations institution of the State.
“Tomorrow, with my colleague Senator Aodhán Ó Ríordáin, I will visit striking workers in Killester.
“Deciding to withdraw your labour is always a difficult decision for hardworking and committed workers to have to take.
“This action from workers and the impact on the chain’s customers could have been avoided if Lloyds chose to accept the Labour Court recommendations and engage with Mandate Trade Union, rather than snub the workers who merely wish to have their legitimate concerns professionally addressed in good faith with the support of their trade union representatives.”
