NASH HELPS SECURE NEW BUS SERVICES FOR DROGHEDA

6 February 2019

Senator Ged Nash has confirmed that the National Transport Authority has approved “substantial improvements” to town bus services in Drogheda.
He explained;
“Drogheda has grown and changed significantly in recent years but the town bus service hasn’t keep pace with or reflected those changes.
“Following representations I made to the National Transport Authority, the NTA has confirmed to me that substantial improvements will be made to the Drogheda town bus service network.”
Three of the key improvements are;
  • New ‘Route D4’ from Southgate Shopping Centre via Dublin Road into the town centre and on to Ballymakenny College
  • New ‘Route D5’ from Southgate Shopping Centre via Dublin Road into Drogheda Town Centre and on to Aston Village.
  • Badly needed changes to Route 101 which will include services both earlier in the morning and later in the evening to provide a better service for workers using this service.

Senator Nash added;
“I have been working on behalf of parents in south Drogheda for a bus service to Ballymakenny College so this new service is very welcome news.
“In addition, local area representative Michelle Hall and I have been working to improve services between Aston Village & Termon Abbey and other parts of the town. This new ‘D5’ route will be a real boon for commuters getting to and from the train station and the Ballymakenny Road service will also come as welcome news for local commuters.
“I have asked the NTA to confirm when these new services will commence and also to confirm the frequency of the services. I will provide a further update on this shortly.”
