Fine Gael urged to stop stonewalling CE Supervisors

18 February 2019

Statement by Ged Nash TD
Spokesperson on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform

Senator Ged Nash has called on the Fine Gael government to stop stonewalling Community Employment (CE) Scheme Supervisors and to engage in meaningful discussions on a pension scheme for those who run CE programmes.

Labour’s Employment Affairs & Social Protection Spokesperson Nash said:

“The spirit and letter of the 2008 Labour Court recommendation on a pension scheme for these workers who manage extremely important social programmes across the country must be respected and implemented.

“A process was established in 2015 by the Labour Party following discussions with SIPTU and Forsa which was designed to bring this important and longstanding cause of concern for CE Supervisors to a satisfactory conclusion.

“Almost four years on, nothing of note has happened and the unions have been repeatedly stonewalled in their efforts to engage with government on a solution.

“The government must now agree to kick-start a time limited process with the unions to implement the 2008 recommendation.

“As each month passes by, more and more CE supervisors retire with nothing to show for their years of work in the community sector but the State pension.”
