SCHOOL PLANNING DELAYS CAUSING HUGE ANXIETY FOR EAST MEATH PARENTS

12 May 2019

The delay in submitting a planning application for temporary accommodation for the new South Drogheda/East Meath Educate Together Secondary School is causing huge anxiety for local parents, East Meath election candidate Annie Hoey has said.

The Labour candidate and former President of the Union of Students in Ireland explained;

“Less than four months before the school is scheduled to welcome almost fifty first year students, we are still waiting for the Department of Education to submit a planning application to Meath County Council for the temporary accommodation on the Mill Road.

“All the Department will tell us is that the submission of a planning application to Meath County Council is ‘imminent’. This just isn’t good enough.

“Parents need reassurance and an absolute guarantee that the school,
which we all want to see develop, will open on schedule and without any unnecessary delays.”

The Beamore woman added;

“I am a huge supporter of the Educate Together model. The opening of this new school will offer plurality and diversity of choice for local students in south Drogheda and East Meath.

“However, I cannot stress highly enough the absolute urgency of the Department submitting this planning application to the Council.”

Annie Hoey concluded;

“If elected to Meath County Council I will prioritise the development of a permanent building for the school which the Labour Party campaigned for.”
