FRIDAY’S VOTE SHOULD MARK THE END OF ‘THE GREAT EAST MEATH RIP-OFF’ - HOEY

20 May 2019

Annie Hoey has said Friday’s local election vote should herald ‘the end of the great East Meath rip-off’.

The Labour candidate explained;

“I am a proven activist with a track record of getting things done and I will fight hard on Meath County Council to stem and reverse the continued underfunding of projects and services in East Meath by the Council.

“There is no mystery as to why East Meath gets so little from Meath County Council despite its size, population and the very clear infrastructure and amenities deficit.

“It’s because each year a cosy consensus of Councillors vote through budgets on the nod, budget that see bags of cash raised from the property and car tax paid by East Meath families siphoned off to Navan to be spent elsewhere in the county.

“This is happening in plain sight and at the same time as the area is crying out for basic amenities like paths to schools, safe cycle lanes and a new and long-awaited public library.

“This great East Meath rip-off has to end and the election on Friday must see the status quo and the stitch-up on the Council challenged.

“I don’t accept that the chronic underfunding of my area is the new normal.

“It’s a serious public policy and local democratic failure and is having major consequences for quality of life in the area.

“People should expect more from those they elect to public office. Elections are about accountability and about hope for the future.

“On Friday it is time that those who, by their actions, are content to let East Meath wait at the back of the queue are held to account.

“I’m fighting for a better future for the southern environs of Drogheda and East Meath.”

Ends.
