NASH WELCOMES PAY RISE FOR SECURITY WORKERS

2 June 2019

Senator Ged Nash said all contract security workers must be paid a legal minimum hourly rate of pay of €11.65 per hour from the 1st June, up from €11.35.

He explained;

“I introduced new laws where unions and employers in security can come together under the aegis of the Labour Court to set wage rates in excess of the National Minimum Wage and introduce other benefits such as sick pay and benefits for staff who attend attacked during the course of their duties.

“A Joint Labour Committee system is also in place for contract cleaners.

“I signed the first such Order in the 1st October 2015. It is great to see unions and decent employers still using this system which provides for decency for security workers and certainty for employers.

“Under the system, the rate of pay has risen from €10.75 to €11.65 and the next step should be a Living Wage of at least €11.90 an hour.

“Where the new legal rate is not being paid, a complaint should me made to the WRC in order to have the law enforced. I am always available to assist workers with this process.”
