NASH WELCOMES DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE COMMITMENT ON INITIATIVE FOR DROGHEDA

Speaking following a meeting with senior officials from the Department of Justice which took place today (Wednesday, 3rd April) local Labour TD Ged Nash said;
“I am now satisfied that the Department of Justice at the most senior level understands that the gang crime issues in our town demand a holistic and comprehensive response that goes beyond a policing and criminal justice approach.
“What we need to address the scourge of gang crime and the fallout from it is a multi-layered approach to the complex issues experienced in our communities, modelled as I have proposed time and again on the Mulvey approach to gang crime and social investment in Dublin’s north inner city.
“Government departments and agencies need to be involved in any response, but the local community has to have ownership of the initiative and the plan that will emerge from this process
“This whole new approach should enable us to attract and target funding to build resilience and develop the services, opportunities and social infrastructure needed in our town,” Deputy Nash concluded.
