The Department of Housing & Planning has confirmed to Deputy Ged Nash that a funding application has been received from Louth County Council for financial support for the building of the Northern Port Access Route.

In a reply to the Labour TD, the Department has said the application, which comes under Call 2 of the Urban Regeneration and Development Fund, was received before the deadline of Friday the 29th May.

He said;

“This is a crucial piece of the jigsaw to allow Drogheda to develop sustainably, for housing provision, the development of amenities like municipal pitches and to support, for example, the building of our new stadium for our local club Drogheda United.

“This funding is urgent and the decision will be a test of any new government’s commitment to Drogheda. I will continue to make the strongest case possible for funding for the route.”
