  • New tickets to be launched in early 2022 will provide 100 days of travel any time over the year with opportunity to extend coverage if required

 Local TD Ged Nash has secured a commitment from the National Transport Authority that a new ‘Taxsaver’ ticket aimed at commuters who work from home part of the week and commute to work on a reduced number of days will be available from early 2022.

Deputy Nash said;

“In response to countless representations from constituents in Drogheda, South Louth and East Meath I made contact with the National Transport Authority on several occasions in recent months to make the case for a more flexible approach to the structure and pricing of the Taxsaver tickets.

“Hybrid working is here to stay and the need for new ways of working to be reflected in the Taxsaver ticket system is now being recognised by the NTA.

“The NTA CO has confirmed to me that new Taxsaver tickets will be launched in early 2022 and will provide 100 days of travel any time over the year with opportunity to extend coverage if required.

“I am very pleased that the case for a more flexible option has been accepted because commuters in Louth & East Meath can no longer be expected to fork out between €2,600 and €3,600 for an annual Taxsaver ticket they may no longer fully use.

“I will keep a close eye on this issue and keep the pressure on to ensure this pledge is delivered upon.”
