Newgrange Hospice marks a great day for Drogheda

23 February 2024

Louth Deputy Ged Nash of Labour has said the publication of plans for a state-of-the-art new hospice facility on the grounds of the MMMs is a great day for Drogheda and the region.

He said; “I recall that my first meeting on a proposed hospice project for Drogheda was 13 years ago.

“So many visionaries – especially Prof. Dominic O’Brannagain, Sr. Ursula Sharpe and her predecessors and the wider MMM’s community, HSE leaders regionally and the team at McKevitt King architects, and Noel Smyth who is one of the main drivers behind the Newgrange Hospice Foundation – have stuck with this to the point where we will soon see the planning application for this incredible and much needed service for our community and the wider north east submitted to the Council.

“This will be a real community facility integrated into the north side of our town and designed to the highest of standards with the needs of those who are at end of life and their families at its heart.

“I am pleased that the project drivers plan to approach this in a collaborative way and that they will engage with and bring the important local hospice groups in Drogheda, East Meath and beyond with them on this journey as partners.”
